Cambridge Suites Hotel Sydney Recognized by Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council's
Human Resources Award for Achievement
At the Hotel Association of Canada Gala Awards Dinner at the Toronto Hilton on February 11, the team at Cambridge Suites Hotel Sydney were awarded with the Human Resources Award from the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council (CTHRC). The award was presented by Wendy Swedlove, President of the CTHRC. Michele Bianchini, General Manager of Cambridge Suites Hotel Sydney, accepted the award with a beautiful speech of thanks in which she credited the employees of the hotel for their success. The Human Resources Award is given for programs that develop a climate conducive to attracting and retaining highly qualified employees resulting in new or repeat business and creating goodwill among guests. The award recognizes an individual, team or property whose human resource practices rank them among the “new generation of leaders” in Canada’s lodging industry.
The Cambridge Suites Hotel, Sydney is committed to providing its staff with the resources and an environment that supports their growth and development. As such, the hotel’s wide range of training and incentive programs has made the property a sought-after place of employment. Attractive career development options, competitive wages, flexible hours, benefits, incentive programs and RRSP matching have all contributed to the hotel’s minimal staff turnover and high guest-service levels. And the investment in their people has paid off. The service experienced by guests has consistently rated at over at ninety-seven per cent.
Establishing reward programs to recognize and motivate employees has enabled the entire team at Cambridge Suites to share in the success of the business. This loyalty and success has brought a number of accolades their way including: the National Business Recognition Award; the Human Resources Leadership Awards; and Best Places to Work – Atlantic Canada. For the past four years the hotel has also met or exceeded national criteria for implementing emerit professional certification for their employees, with eighty-four percent of staff certified in 2008. It is this achievement that is particularly pleasing to the Council emerit certification is one of our proudest achievements. Employee feedback on these programs has been nothing but positive.
